Hello my name is....

For our latest and final brief of the year we have been asked to look at what makes us as a designer.  What influences us and what makes is the designers we are.  Based upon the amazing exhibition that you may have seen in a previous post 'Hello my name is Paul Smith' I am excited to see where this brief takes me.

Thinking upon this I have decided to share with you an extract from my essay on menswear and it's influence on wonenswear.  I have found that menswear, tailoring and Savile Row have become major influences to me.  I think this is due to the functional element of menswear.

'Menswear could possibly be defined by the tailored suit; this constant within a mans wardrobe is possibly the longest enduring garment ever made.  Originally exclusively for menswear, women adopted it as sartorial limitations were broken down and the female wardrobe became a lot more male orientated.'

Photo-shoot Results

You might have seen in my previous post that I had taken part in a photo shoot for my groups entry into the show studio design download competition.  Well I can now share with you the results, after hard work from our lovely photographer Paige we were able to produce some really lovely images! Here are a few of my favourites....

Cameras at the ready....it's photo-shoot time!!

So after making up the JW Anderson bubble top and skirt we had to get them photographed professionally for another part of the brief and for our entry to the competition! Well Friday was the day, after a few weeks of organising we were able to finally get the shoot done and we had decided that I (reluctantly) would be the model.

I have to admit it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I think the only proof of this will be the photos and we won't get those back until Friday!

I was also able to watch and do a joint shoot will Evie who was modelling Becki's childrenswear version of the garments, this was a new experience and I really enjoyed being able to share the experience with this beautiful little girl!

J W Anderson - Bubble Skirt and Top

For one of the briefs that I am currently doing I have been put into a pair where between us we had to make the JW Anderson Bubble Skirt and Top to submit to the Show Studio competition.  In my pair we decided to make them in a combination of Nude Neoprene and Black Mesh like fabrics.  We have made a few changes to the pattern such as adding seams and adapting the pleat.  Also we decided to tie the gathering using black chain.  I am pleased with what we have been able to create and I feel that we have added our own twist to the garments.
